A Nation Mourns: The Final Journey of Major Paul Njoroge Ndung’u

The somber silence at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was broken only by the steady, synchronized steps of military pallbearers. Draped in the national flag, the casket bearing the remains of Major Paul Njoroge Ndung’u—one of Kenya’s brave sons—arrived home from the Central African Republic (CAR), marking the final journey of a hero who gave his life in the line of duty.

As the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) stood in solemn formation, a deep sense of loss rippled through the ranks and across the nation. Major Ndung’u was not just a soldier; he was a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the ideals of peace and service.

“The KDF fraternity, the fallen officer’s family and the nation at large mourn the loss of a dedicated soldier whose unwavering commitment to peace and service will forever be remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the KDF said in a heartfelt statement.

Following the dignified reception, Major Ndung’u’s remains were transferred to the Mashujaa Farewell Home. It is here that the final rites will be prepared—rites befitting a warrior who stood tall for Kenya in a foreign land.

His passing adds another name to the growing list of gallant Kenyan soldiers who have paid the ultimate price in peacekeeping missions beyond our borders. These men and women remind us that peace is often bought with profound sacrifice, and that the cost of stability in volatile regions frequently lies on the shoulders of selfless individuals like Major Ndung’u.
