Machakos Drug Bust: 250kg of Bhang Worth KSh 7.5M Seized, Two Arrested

In a major anti-drug operation, police in Machakos County have arrested two men found with 250 kilograms of bhang, a narcotic valued at KSh 7.5 million. The successful Machakos bhang seizure was led by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, following a credible tip-off.

The suspects, identified as Samuel Baraza Nyongesa (38) and Lawrence Onyango Asindi, were intercepted at Kitanga village. They had earlier escaped a police roadblock at the Lari flyover in Kiambu County, but officers caught up with them while driving a black Toyota Noah (registration KDN 218A).

Inside the vehicle, detectives discovered ten gunny bags packed with bhang. “The bhang estimated at KSh 7.5 million in street value was found after searching the vehicle,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.

According to the DCI, the suspects were not armed, but the size and value of the contraband make this one of the most notable bhang seizures in Kenya this year. The vehicle and its contents have since been taken to DCI Headquarters in Nairobi for further analysis and evidence processing.

The two suspects are currently in custody, awaiting arraignment in court. Authorities have emphasized that this bhang trafficking case underscores the importance of community cooperation in the fight against narcotics.

Police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks.
