Government Strongly Condemns Shoe-Throwing Incident Targeting President Ruto in Migori
In a disturbing turn of events, during a public rally in Kehancha, Migori County, a shoe was thrown at President William Ruto, prompting immediate government reactions and sparking a national conversation about respect for leadership.
The incident occurred Sunday evening while the Head of State addressed a crowd. Footage shared widely on social media captured the moment the shoe was hurled from the audience, briefly interrupting the president’s speech. Fortunately, the projectile missed its target, and the event continued after a short pause.
On Monday, May 5, Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura issued a firm statement condemning the act. “Fellow Kenyans, the government strongly condemns the incident that occurred in Kehancha, Migori County. We must respect the institution of the Presidency,” Mwaura stated.
He further emphasized the need for accountability and called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved. “Those behind this shameful act must be apprehended. What values are we teaching our children? Let us be patriotic and maintain peace,” he added.
The government’s response highlights broader concerns about civility in political discourse and the importance of upholding national values, especially in moments of disagreement or protest.
As investigations continue, many Kenyans have taken to social media to express their views, with some condemning the act while others debate the underlying tensions that may have led to the outburst.
