Why I Quit Politics – Morara Kebaso Explains His Exit From Public Life

By Kelvin Kibet – June 24, 2025

Renowned Kenyan lawyer and former political figure Morara Kebaso has opened up about his decision to leave politics, saying the pressure and public scrutiny had become unbearable.

In a widely shared Facebook post, Kebaso cited a loss of personal freedom, spiritual judgment, and constant criticism as key reasons for stepping away from political life.

“I finally escaped politics. I can now live my life, do my business, travel, and worship freely,” he wrote. “I don’t have to worry about being misquoted or judged for smiling or dancing the wrong way.”

A Life Under Surveillance

Kebaso painted a vivid picture of what life was like under the spotlight — one where every move was monitored and questioned. From needing security and attending constant interviews, to being criticized on social media by people he claimed hadn’t achieved what he had, the toll was heavy.

“I don’t have to care about social media or negative comments. I was almost going mad,” he admitted.

Freedom, Faith, and a Fresh Start

One of the most profound reasons for his exit, Kebaso said, was to freely express his faith and spirituality without being accused of clout-chasing or pretending.

“I can now preach the word of God without people thinking it’s for show.”

He also made it clear that he is no longer obligated to explain his personal life or possessions to the public.

“I don’t need to explain to anyone the cost of my shirt, shoe, car, or house. It’s none of their business.”

Mixed Public Reactions

While many supporters celebrated his bold decision, others reacted with sharp criticism, raising questions about his integrity and past dealings.

Top comments from Kenyans online:

  • Edwin M Ondieki: “You’re a conman. Sasa rudisha gari.”

  • Oduor Stevo: “Rudisha pesa.”

  • Bamburi Channel: “Conman.”

  • Sam Sam Robin: “Hata hakuna kitu… umeanza kuongea matope.”

  • Kush Wa Murima: “Kwani umelewa bro?”

  • Gladies Maina: “Am willing to take over 🤣🤣🤣”

The backlash suggests that not everyone believes his story, with many demanding accountability and transparency.

What Lies Ahead for Morara Kebaso?

Now that he’s walked away from politics, Kebaso says he wants to focus on business, personal growth, and spirituality. Whether he returns to public life in another form or remains in the private sector is yet to be seen.
