Rev. Dr. Roy Stover Buried Hours After Death in Eldama Ravine: A Legacy of Faith and Service

The community of Eldama Ravine in Baringo County is mourning the loss of Rev. Dr. Roy Stover, a long-serving American missionary, teacher, and pastor who made Kenya his home for decades. Rev. Stover passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 93, and was buried just hours later in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends.
His burial, though simple, was a powerful reflection of a life lived with humility and service.
A Legacy of Faith and Compassion
Rev. Stover was best known for his work at A.I.C Eldama Ravine Town Church, where he served with deep conviction. To the local church and the wider community, he was more than just a pastor—he was a mentor, teacher, counselor, and father figure to many.
His home and heart were always open. He preached not only with words, but also through his actions—living the Gospel daily and mentoring hundreds of individuals across generations.
Tributes from Leaders and the Public
Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi paid tribute at the burial, describing Rev. Stover as “a true servant of God” whose influence extended far beyond the church.
“Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a ministry that made a lasting impact,” said Governor Cheboi. “He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”
President William Ruto also joined the nation in mourning. In a message shared on social media, he praised the missionary’s impact in transforming lives through both faith and education.
“Dr. Stover will be remembered for his remarkable service as a teacher, pastor, and community leader,” the president said. “His legacy will live on.”
Builder of Hope: Elma Barnett and Kamonong’ Schools
Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma remembered Rev. Stover as the founder of vital community institutions like:
-

Elma Kamonong’ High School
These institutions have provided education, shelter, and hope to thousands of children and youth in the region.
“Rev. Stover was not only a pastor, but a mentor, builder, educator, husband, and father figure to many,” said MP Sirma.
A Life That Touched Generations

His deep love for the Kenyan people.
-
His cross-cultural ministry approach.

His unwavering commitment to serving the poor and marginalized.
A Nation Reflects
While the majority of Kenyans praised Rev. Stover’s lifelong service, some social media users used the moment to question the quick burial and air political frustrations linked to recent government controversies. Despite this, the overwhelming tone remained one of gratitude, love, and admiration.
