President Ruto Destroys Over 6,000 Illegal Firearms, Declares War on Rogue Police Officers

In a landmark move to enhance public safety, Kenya’s President William Samoei Ruto presided over the destruction of 6,000+ illegal firearms recovered between 2022 and 2025. The high-profile event, held at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’, Kajiado County, marks a significant step in Kenya’s fight against insecurity and violent crime.

“The destruction of these weapons signals our total focus in tackling insecurity and violence in our communities,” said President Ruto.

Firearms Destroyed: A Message to Criminal Networks

The firearms, seized in various crackdowns nationwide, included smuggled weapons, unlicensed guns, and arms used in criminal activities. The firearms destruction exercise sends a clear message to criminal networks operating in the region.

Security analysts praised the move as part of a broader strategy to disarm violent gangs and reduce gun-related crime in Kenya.

Zero Tolerance for Rogue Police Officers

In addition to addressing illegal weapons, President Ruto condemned rogue police officers, stating that individuals who abuse their authority will face justice.

“We commit to protect Kenyans from rogue police officers. Criminal elements in uniform must be held to account,” he affirmed.

This comes amid rising public concern about police brutality and extrajudicial killings. Human rights groups have been pushing for comprehensive police reforms and increased oversight of law enforcement agencies.

Government’s Ongoing Security Agenda

The Kenyan government has pledged to:

  • Enhance community policing

  • Equip law enforcement with modern tools and training

  • Improve public trust in the National Police Service

These reforms aim to restore confidence in the police and ensure the safety of all Kenyan citizens.
