Liverpool Star Diogo Jota and Brother Andre Silva Die in Tragic Car Crash in Spain

In a devastating turn of events, Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically died in a fatal car crash in northern Spain. The 28-year-old was reportedly traveling with his brother, Andre Silva, 26, when their vehicle veered off the A-52 highway in the Zamora province, bursting into flames upon impact.
The Accident Details
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, the crash occurred in the municipality of Cernadilla, a key route frequently used by travelers from northern Portugal. A statement from the Castilla y León emergency services revealed that several distress calls were received after the vehicle, which was carrying the two brothers, collided and caught fire near Km. 65 of the A-52.
“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident… The car was engulfed in flames, and the fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation,” the statement confirmed.
The Zamora Provincial Council later issued a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Two young people have died in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria). The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station responded. They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP.”
A Promising Career Cut Short
Diogo Jota, born in Massarelos, Portugal, joined Liverpool FC from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020. He quickly established himself as a key player for the club, playing a pivotal role in their FA Cup victory in 2022 and helping them reach the Champions League and EFL Cup finals the same season.
Under the recent leadership of new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Jota continued to shine, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances and contributing to Liverpool’s dramatic Premier League title win last season.
A Family in Mourning
Tragically, Jota’s death comes just two weeks after his wedding to long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he shared three children. In a heartfelt interview published just a day before the incident, Jota described himself as “the luckiest man in the world.”
His brother, Andre Silva, a professional footballer who played for Portuguese side Penafiel, also perished in the crash. Both brothers were well-respected in the footballing community and shared a close personal and professional bond.
