Kisumu Gang-Rape, Robbery Suspects Nabbed After Car Chase

In a major breakthrough, detectives from Kisumu West, working hand in hand with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau from the Nyanza region, have apprehended two dangerous suspects linked to a string of violent crimes, including gang rape and robbery with violence, across Yala, Siaya, and Maseno.

The turning point came after a harrowing incident on the night of May 12, 2025. A woman and her cousin, having spent the evening at Billionaires Bar and Restaurant at Kisiani Market, were heading home in a tuk-tuk. Just as they reached their gate in Ongallo village, their journey took a dark turn.

A grey Toyota Axio suddenly pulled up. In a swift and brutal ambush, three machete-wielding assailants forced the woman into the vehicle. Her cousin narrowly escaped. The gang, showing no mercy, drove off toward Kisiani Junction, using the victim’s phone to demand money from her contacts while they vanished into the night.

Hours later, the victim was discovered at Daraja Mbili along Kiboswa Road, having suffered a horrific gang rape. Her mobile phone and personal belongings had also been stolen.

Determined to bring justice, detectives launched an intensive manhunt. Using forensic clues and strategic intelligence, they tracked the suspects to Kisumu City Centre. Their target: the grey Toyota Axio KDA 019U.

A dramatic car chase ensued as the suspects tried to flee from Kisumu Patel Junction towards Kondele. The pursuit ended when the car lost control and crashed. Fredrick Oduor Ongori, the driver and suspected ringleader, was arrested at the scene.

Under interrogation, Ongori led detectives to Obunga slums, where his accomplice, John Okumu Owidhi, known by the alias Matools, was captured.

Investigations have since confirmed that both suspects are jailbreak fugitives, previously wanted and closely monitored by law enforcement agencies.

The duo is now in police custody, facing multiple charges as detectives intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.

Authorities have assured the public that the manhunt continues and urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station.
