Kenyan-Australian Emily Korir Honored with Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for Championing Disability Inclusion
The Australian High Commission in Kenya has recognized Emily Korir, a trailblazing Kenyan-Australian disability rights advocate, as a recipient of the prestigious Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Emily was honored for her exceptional contribution to disability support services and her work with multicultural communities in South Australia. Originally from Nakuru, Kenya, Emily now lives in Adelaide. She is the Founder and CEO of BET Group Global, an organization that supports individuals living with disabilities to lead independent, dignified lives.
🌍 From Personal Struggle to Global Impact
Emily’s journey began with personal challenges in accessing disability-friendly housing in Australia. In response, she and her husband Bernard Korir co-founded BET Group, a disability support agency that now empowers hundreds of clients across the region.
With her unique cross-cultural experience, Emily is now focused on a powerful new mission: to build Kenya’s first accessible respite home for children with disabilities—a facility that will offer temporary care, therapy, and family support services.
🇰🇪 Connecting Kenya and Australia Through Inclusion
Emily’s work bridges her Kenyan roots and Australian experience, showing the world what’s possible when communities are empowered through compassion, innovation, and inclusive leadership.
“A true champion of inclusion and empowerment,” — Australian High Commission, Kenya
👏🏽 Congratulations to Emily Korir — your impact reaches far beyond borders.
