Kalenjin Musician Vicky Brilliance Accuses Baringo Woman Rep Florence Chematia of Withholding Payment After Performance

Kalenjin secular musician Vicky Brilliance has strongly expressed her disappointment and frustration with the Office of the Baringo County Woman Representative, Hon. Florence Chematia, following an unresolved payment dispute.
In a statement released to the public, Vicky revealed that she was officially invited to perform at a women’s empowerment event organized under Hon. Chematia’s office. She honored the invitation and delivered her performance in good faith, under a prior agreement that she would be compensated afterward.
“I performed with trust that my payment would be made promptly. Unfortunately, that has not happened,” she stated.
According to the artist, despite numerous follow-ups, messages, and phone calls, her payment has not been settled. Instead, she claims that her attempts to get paid have been met with silence, vague promises, and personal attacks.
What has shocked many fans and followers is the WhatsApp screenshot shared by Vicky, showing Hon. Chematia allegedly insulting her intelligence for demanding her rightful pay. Vicky says she was told she has “nothing between her ears” and further threatened that she would never be recommended for any future gigs.

“In all these functions, I’ve never had any issues. Payments were processed on time. What’s happening now in Baringo is unjust and disheartening.”
Shocking Twist: Money Returned in Good Faith
After the event, she says she was sent Ksh 50,000, which was half of the agreed amount. Shortly after, she received a call requesting her to return the money, citing pressure from local artists who hadn’t been paid.
“I returned the money in good faith, trusting I would be paid later. That was a mistake. Up to now, I haven’t received anything.”
Artists Deserve Dignity
Vicky emphasized that she’s not attacking anyone personally but speaking up for fairness and artist rights in Kenya.
“This is not about malice. It’s about respect for the creative industry. Artists like me deserve dignity and timely payment.”
She concluded by expressing her gratitude to her fans in Baringo, who showed her overwhelming love during the event. She also appreciated Bomet Woman Representative Hon. Linet Toto, who supported her and her team during their journey back to Bomet.
