Juja MP George Koimburi Abducted in Broad Daylight: Tension Rises in Kiambu County
Juja MP George Koimburi was abducted in broad daylight on Sunday, May 25, during a church service in Mugutha, Kiambu County. The shocking incident, which happened in front of the congregation at the Full Gospel Church, has left residents and Kenyans across the country in disbelief.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of unidentified men stormed the church, forcibly taking Koimburi and bundling him into a Subaru vehicle. His wife, who tried to stop the attackers, sustained injuries in the process. According to Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, the MP had been trailed by unknown individuals since last week when he was distributing bursaries.
“It was by sheer luck that he escaped an earlier attempt when he fled on a motorbike,” Senator Thang’wa revealed.
The latest abduction comes just 48 hours after Koimburi narrowly escaped a similar attempt on Friday, May 23, at Gachororo Primary School, where he was overseeing a bursary distribution. Reports indicate that Koimburi had to abandon his official vehicle and driver, making a daring escape on a motorbike.
This isn’t the first time the Juja legislator has evaded arrest. In February, he staged another dramatic escape outside the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was facing forgery charges related to academic certificates from nearly 30 years ago.
The motive behind these repeated abduction attempts remains unclear, as Koimburi’s allies insist that he has not received any formal summons or legal notice from the authorities. This has fueled speculation about whether the MP is a target of political persecution.
