Eric Omondi Raises KSh 800K for Viral Grandmother Who Took Chickens to School as Fees

In a powerful act of compassion and patriotism, renowned comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has raised over KSh 800,000 to support Consolata Aoko, a grandmother from Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, whose heartfelt act of offering chickens to settle school fees went viral nationwide.

Grandmother’s Desperate Move Sparks National Uproar

Consolata had appeared at Adiedo Mixed Secondary School carrying six chickens, each worth KSh 1,000, to reduce a KSh 245,000 school fee arrears for her grandchildren in Form Three and Form Four. Her story highlighted the harsh realities many parents face in affording secondary school education in Kenya.

“I have no stable income, but I want my children to finish school. Today I brought these chickens—at least it shows that I’m trying,” she said tearfully.

Eric Omondi & TEAM SISI KWA SISI Step In

Moved by her determination, Eric Omondi, through his grassroots movement TEAM SISI KWA SISI, mobilized Kenyans of goodwill and raised over KSh 800,000.

  • All school fees have now been fully paid.

  • A bank account has been opened in Consolata’s name with KSh 600,000 set aside for the children’s college education.

  • Consolata has also received support to start a fish business to sustain her family long-term.

Education Crisis in Kenya

Consolata’s story symbolizes a wider education crisis in rural Kenya, where hidden costs and poverty hinder thousands of students despite government subsidies. The act of offering chickens may have seemed symbolic, but it shed light on the sacrifices parents make for a better future for their children.

Eric Omondi’s Call to Action

“It’s not about how much we give, but about the impact when we come together. TEAM SISI KWA SISI is about Kenyans helping Kenyans,” Eric Omondi posted on Instagram.
