DCI Arrests Another Suspect Linked to the Fatal Shooting of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were
Kibera, Nairobi – May 14, 2025
In a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested another key suspect believed to have played a pivotal role in the April 30, 2025, shooting.
The suspect, identified as Amos Barasa Kasili, was apprehended in an intelligence-led operation at Kibera Darajani. According to DCI sources, forensic analysis placed Barasa at the crime scene and linked him to the main suspects already in custody.
Investigators revealed that Barasa served as the motorcycle rider who trailed the MP’s vehicle before and after the fatal shooting. The motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W, has since been recovered. It was the same bike captured by CCTV cameras near Parliament, closely following the MP’s car moments before the attack.
Barasa, who has a history of criminal activity, is alleged to have posed as a Boda Boda operator while secretly working with armed gangs. Interrogations revealed that he was paid Ksh—50,000 for his role in the murder, having been recruited by the main perpetrators.
Further profiling shows that Barasa previously served time at Industrial Area Prison, where he reportedly came into contact with some of the other suspects connected to the case.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to be arraigned soon as investigations continue.
