Chiromo Hospital Ordered Shut Following CEO Susan Njoki’s Death Probe

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has ordered the immediate closure of clinical operations at Chiromo Hospital – Braeside branch following the controversial death of Toto Touch CEO, Susan Kamengere Njoki.

In a letter dated Friday, July 25, KMPDC Chief Executive Officer David Kariuki directed the hospital to cease all medical activities and evacuate all patients within 24 hours. The decision comes amid growing concerns over the alleged involvement of hospital staff in Njoki’s mysterious death.

The directive follows a site inspection conducted by KMPDC on July 18. The council further demanded that the facility submit Njoki’s post-mortem results along with all relevant patient records and medical documentation.

“Following reports indicating the possible involvement of a staff member in the death of Susan Kamengere Njoki, the Council issues the following directives effective immediately,” the letter reads in part. It continues: “You are hereby instructed to evacuate all patients within 24 hours of receipt of this letter and cease all clinical operations until further notice.”

Njoki passed away on July 15 under disturbing circumstances. Reports indicate she was allegedly abducted from her Kileleshwa residence and forcibly injected with unknown substances before being admitted to the facility. Audio recordings attributed to Njoki claim that she was restrained by two men and injected by two nurses—reportedly under instructions from her husband.

In the recordings, Njoki described her ordeal, recounting how she was taken without explanation and left terrified.

A post-mortem conducted by six pathologists later revealed Njoki died from manual strangulation. The team confirmed the presence of neck compression injuries consistent with forceful strangulation, which led to oxygen deprivation in her bloodstream.

The autopsy also showed Njoki had recently eaten before her death, with food found in her stomach. Contrary to initial reports by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the pathologists confirmed that Njoki died while at Chiromo Hospital—not en route.
