By Kelvin Kibet | July 14, 2025

Kenya’s rising football sensation Aldrine Kibet is on the verge of completing a €6 million (Sh900 million) transfer to Spanish La Liga club Celta Vigo, marking one of the most high-profile moves by a Kenyan teenager in recent history.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, best known for his dynamic playmaking and goal-scoring prowess, is expected to be officially unveiled by Celta Vigo on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. His parents are already en route to Spain to witness the milestone.

🌟 From Kitale to Spain: Kibet’s Meteoric Rise

Kibet made national headlines while playing for St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County. He led the school to victory in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national championship in August 2023, where he was crowned both Most Valuable Player (MVP) and top scorer with 25 goals and 27 assists.

His exceptional performances caught the attention of former Harambee Stars player David Kenga, who now works with the Nàstic Sports Academy in Spain. Kibet later joined the academy, which is affiliated with Gimnàstic de Tarragona, a club in Spain’s third division.

🏟️ New Chapter with Celta Vigo

Real Club Celta de Vigo, widely known as Os Celestes, is based in Vigo, Galicia, and competes in La Liga, Spain’s top-flight league. The club, established in 1923, plays its home games at Estadio Municipal de Balaídos, a stadium with a capacity of approximately 24,870.

Though Celta Vigo has never clinched a La Liga or Copa del Rey title, they have reached the Copa del Rey final on three occasions, and continue to build a strong squad to challenge for domestic silverware.

Kibet is expected to play a pivotal role in Celta Vigo’s midfield, adding creativity and attacking depth as the club eyes its first major trophy.

💬 A Nation Celebrates

The news of Kibet’s impending move has been met with an outpouring of congratulations across Kenya. Among the well-wishers is Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, who described the move on X (formerly Twitter) as a “major milestone” in the teenager’s career.

“Aldrine Kibet’s story is a shining example of where talent, discipline, and opportunity can lead our youth. We are proud of you!” — Esther Passaris

⚽ What’s Next for Aldrine Kibet?

Once unveiled, Kibet will become one of the few Kenyan players to sign directly with a La Liga side, joining the ranks of footballers putting Kenya on the global stage. He is expected to undergo orientation and begin training with the senior team shortly after his unveiling.

His transfer comes at a time when Kenya’s youth football talent is increasingly gaining international attention, with scouts closely following players from national school tournaments and local academies.
