Chebor Kogo Offers to Pay Kalenjin Artist Vicky Brilliance After Baringo Woman Rep Fails to Honor Agreement

Renowned Kenyan-American humanitarian and motivational speaker Chebor Kogo has stepped in to defend Kalenjin musician Vicky Brilliance, after the artist publicly revealed she was not paid for her performance at a women’s empowerment event organized under the office of Baringo Woman Representative, Hon. Florence Chematia.
Chebor did not hold back in her statement:
“Woman Rep Baringo, that was wrong of you mama. A woman is a woman’s enemy.”
“You can distinguish the strong women — they’re the ones who support each other, not tear each other down.”
Outraged by how the matter was handled, Chebor went further to offer $1,000 (Ksh 130,000) out of her pocket to cover the artist’s dues:
“Pole sana Vicky Brilliance. Please give me her number nimtumie hiyo pesa. $1000 si pesa ya haibu ndogo ndogo jameni.”
Her bold statement has since gone viral, with many Kenyans praising her for standing up for artists and demanding accountability from public leaders.
🎤 What Happened to Vicky Brilliance?
Vicky Brilliance, one of the most respected secular musicians in the Kalenjin entertainment scene, was formally invited to perform at a women’s empowerment function hosted in Baringo. The invitation came through the office of Woman Rep Hon. Florence Chematia, with clear payment terms agreed in advance.
“I performed with integrity and trust, knowing payment would follow — as had been agreed,” Vicky explained.
However, after the event, things took a wrong turn. Despite multiple calls and messages to the Woman Rep’s office, Vicky says she was ignored, given vague responses, and even insulted directly.
“I was told I have ‘nothing between my ears’ for simply following up on my pay,” Vicky revealed, along with a screenshot of the alleged WhatsApp message.
💸 The Payment That Never Came
Vicky initially received Ksh 50,000, half of her agreed payment. But shortly after, she received a request to return the money temporarily, claiming there was pressure to pay local artists first. She agreed in good faith, trusting that her full payment would be made soon after.
“I returned the 50K. Up to now, I have received nothing.”
📍Vicky Has Performed Across Kenya Without Issues
Unlike her experience in Baringo, Vicky Brilliance has performed in various government and public events with zero disputes:
-
Mogotio Empowerment Program (Hon. Kiborek)
-
Kimalel Goat Auction
-
Nandi Event (Hon. Cynthia Muge)
-
Kapseret Gathering (Hon. Oscar Sudi)
“All these leaders treated me with respect. I was paid without drama. What happened in Baringo is unacceptable,” she said.
❤️ Gratitude Despite the Frustration
Despite the situation, Vicky expressed her sincere thanks to the Baringo fans who turned up in large numbers and showed love during her performance.
She also thanked Hon. Linet Toto, the Bomet Woman Rep, for her support on the journey back:
“Thank you Hon. Linet Toto. You’ve shown what real women leadership looks like.”
✊ Final Word: Artists Deserve Respect
This case is more than just about one artist. It raises a larger issue about how creatives are treated in Kenya, especially during events funded by public offices.
“Artists are professionals. We earn our living from performances. Respect includes timely pay,” Vicky concluded.
