KRA Extends 2025 Tax Filing Deadline to July 1 — How to File Your KRA Returns Online Today

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has officially extended the deadline for filing 2025 tax returns to midnight, July 1, 2025. This extension gives Kenyan taxpayers one last chance to file and pay their taxes online through the iTax portal.


📌 Who Must File KRA Returns?

Anyone with a KRA PIN must file tax returns — including:

  • Employed individuals

  • Self-employed persons

  • Unemployed persons (file Nil Returns)

  • Business owners and companies


🔍 How to File KRA Returns Online (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Visit the iTax Portal

Go to: 👉 https://itax.kra.go.ke

Step 2: Login

Use your KRA PIN and password to access your iTax account.

Step 3: Navigate to ‘File Returns’

Click ‘Returns’ > ‘File Return’.

Step 4: Choose the Return Type

  • Resident Individual if employed/self-employed

  • Nil Return if you had no income in 2024

  • Select period: 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2024

Step 5: Submit & Download Acknowledgment

Upload your filled form (for employed) or submit directly (for nil returns).
Download and keep the Acknowledgment Receipt.


⚠️ What Happens If You Don’t File?

Missing the July 1, 2025 deadline will result in penalties:

  • Individuals: KSh 2,000

  • Companies: KSh 20,000
