Kenyan Student Madeline Jeruto Dies in Australia, Community Launches Repatriation Appeal

A Kenyan student living in Australia, Madeline Jeruto, has died following health complications, according to a statement released by Kitwek South Australia Inc. The 26-year-old, originally from Chebarus Village in Nandi County, passed away on June 26, 2025.
Jeruto had arrived in Australia in September 2023 to pursue her studies. She was described by community members as a determined and humble young woman who had shown great promise in her academic journey.
Her death has sent shockwaves through the Kenyan diaspora community in Australia and beyond.
“She was just beginning her life and education abroad. This is a tragic loss for the family and the community,” said a Kitwek SA spokesperson.
Appeal for Repatriation Support
Kitwek SA has launched a public appeal to raise AUD $45,000 to help repatriate Jeruto’s body to Kenya for burial. The funds will cover funeral and transportation costs.
“We’re asking well-wishers and members of the Kenyan and African communities to help us bring Madeline home for a dignified sendoff,” the group stated.
