Kenyan Caregiver Irene Wanjiru Killed While on Duty in the UK

The Kenyan community is mourning the devastating loss of Irene Wanjiru Mbugua, a 48-year-old caregiver from Mataara, Gatundu North, who tragically passed away while on duty in the United Kingdom on June 22, 2025.
Ms. Mbugua, a single mother of four, had been working with a caregiving agency in the UK for the past two years. According to reports, she was killed in an incident involving a patient under her care. The West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her sudden passing has left her family and friends in deep shock. The heartbreaking news reached her family a day later, after repeated attempts to contact her went unanswered.

Irene was known for her compassionate heart and dedication to her work. Like many Kenyans in the diaspora, she went abroad in search of a better life for her children and family. Her commitment to caregiving and love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
